The Y stool is a development of a simple three-legged stool available in steam-bent Perthshire ash or oak. It is available in two versions - plain or with a small handle.
They are available from our shop in ash or oak and are shown here in local Perthshire oak.
The Y RANGE was designed in 2011 to take advantage of a supply of local ash. Ash is particularly good for steam-bending and we take a lengths of green ash, slice them exceptionally cleanly with TCT tipped bandsaw and steam-bend over a former to create the strong triangulated Y component. We are now also able to do this with Scottish oak. The strong Y shaped component is used across a range of furniture including stools, chairs, tables and desks.
The main stems of the legs are rounded off, and traditionally "wedged" into the seat. The handle/backrest is a continuation of a leg which flows up and is notched into the seat. A simple handle is then pegged into place.
The Y STOOLS have a spray laquer finish if ash, or oiled if oak.
