Cool desks
8 desks and 8 things to think about if you are buying or commissioning a desk for your home office.
1. How do you work - pencil and paper, ink and drawings, laptop or desk-top?
2. The working surface - should it be curved and/or sloping or flat? If you are analogue, curved and sloping can feel comfortable and ergonomic. If you work on a laptop or computer a flat top will be best.
3. The material - wood or leather or other? We usually make desks tops from wood or leather. Leather feels great for writing with pen and paper but is better on a flat surface. Wood feels warm to the touch, is durable, easy to repair and can be flat, curved or sloped.
4. Sit or stand or a combination of both? We make all three.
5. Storage - there is options for cupboards, shelves, drawers or niches. Think about what do you want to store?
6. Overall size - do you work with large plans or do you have a tiny space? Also remember to think of the height and it’s relationship to your chair. Sharing dimensions and plans of the space available is very helpful and we are happy to then advise.
7. Location in the room - edge or centre of room, looking out or looking in?
8. Do you need cable management and where is the power socket?
