Flying Goose Table
Our clients were looking for a large statement table for twelve diners for a new build house over looking a Perthshire loch. They had commissioned us to make a dining table for them before and this commission started with Angus visiting their new site while still at the building stage. Angus began by collecting information about the room, the flow of people, the views, the windows and doors and light. They talked about the palette of materials and David wanted to use elm for the top and possibly ash for the base.
Angus knew the loch well having regularly dinghy sailed there, and one of the most memorable sites occurs in the spring, when flocks of geese arrive during their migration north. The moment just before a goose alights is a frenzy of running legs, flapping wings, and loud honking which then transforms into elegant flight. Angus wanted to capture this moment in the under-structure of this table.
The deep, richly coloured elm top provides warmth, and the curved sides create an intimate friendly dining and meeting space in the large room. The base is steam-bent local ash.
