Workshop and Woodland Open Weekend
Old Castle Wood in late May.
Saturday 31st May and Sunday 1st June
We are running an open weekend in collaboration with Woodland Heritage Charity.
On both days there will be a Workshop Open Morning (open to all), and in the afternoon, a Guided Woodland Walk followed by Workshop Tour. The afternoon MUST be booked in advance, and it is useful if you register interest in the open morning using the button below. There will be a small charge for the afternoon event and all proceeds will go to the Woodland Heritage Charity. Our woodland is mostly oak, with an understory of bluebells late May to early June, so it is a wonderful time to visit. The afternoon events are limited to 20 people - please book through Woodland Heritage using the button below.

About the Open Morning
Visitors will be able to come into the workshop to look around and see work in progress in our workshop, in the centre of Aberfeldy. The workshop is small historic building with uneven floors, steep stairs and dust over two floors. If the workshop is busy, visitors may be asked to wait or come back, to make sure we can maintain safety in the workshop and allow everyone space to move around.
You will meet members of our small team of dedicated and highly skilled craftsmen who use steam-bending and traditional cabinet-making techniques, to create exceptional curvaceous furniture for homes, gardens and public places.
About the Guided Woodland Walk and Workshop Tour.
At 2PM we will meet in the small village of Grandtully (exact location tbc but probably by Grandtully Village Hall). We will drive in convoy to Old Castle Wood and as the approach to the woodland is along a rough track and footpath, we need to limit the cars to a maximum of five cars. Participants will be invited to car share on the day.
There will be a guided walk in the fifty acre wood, lasting approximately 90 minutes, along paths with uneven ground and slopes. (Angus Ross sources timber for his furniture-making from this woodland).
For ease of moving around the site, the group will be divided into two groups of ten.
The tour will finish back at Grandtully. For those who would like a longer walk there is the option of returning to Grandtully by footpath.
Participants will then be invited to drive to Aberfeldy for a guided tour of our workshop (five mile drive or two hour walk).
Any questions please email us using the contact page or using the button below.
Please see Sustainable Timber for more about our woodland and our timber.
Woodland Heritage are promoting open days across the UK in June 2025. We are the only event in Scotland!
